A 2023 Look at 2024

A 2023 Look at 2024

As of right now, it is only a week and a half away from the end of 2023. It has been quite a year in review. However, I want to take a moment to look forward at 2024 and give some predictions to what we might see based on what other trend forecasters are saying and what we have been seeing in media.

1. Red

It has already started, from runway looks to fast fashion inception. There is a lot of red, and it comes in all shades and hues. From bright nearly orange - reds to burgundy's, there was a lot of red this year. Red is nothing new, red is always around. It just appears that there may be more red accessories and garments available this year than the past few years. We already have a few red pieces if you are looking to shop staple red items for your closet!

2. While we're at it, Peach

Peach Fuzz is officially 2024's color of the year! Peach is personally my favorite color, so I am very excited to see what is to come. Especially accessory wise, as with my skin tone I struggle to wear peachy tones for fear of looking nude. Peach can be such a range of colors, from nearly rosy pinks to orange tone neutrals. I am very excited to see where this color takes us, largely because of the way that Pantone marketed this color. The release of the color of the year was marketed with beautiful visuals and very interesting trend predictions.

3. Preppy?

I have seen the preppiness predictions in a few places now. Emma Chamberlain on her podcast Anything Goes released a 2024 fashion prediction episode, where she alluded to thinking the Abercrombie and Fitch aesthetic from the 2000's/2010'2 would arise. Polo shirts, skinny jeans, mini skirts, and boat shoes she predicts will hit the market again, with a faux preparatory school look. And to the same point,  InStyle, Real Simple, and Vogue all predict in one way or another the rise of a polo shirted preppy appearance to be popularized as we walk into the next year. I personally will wait to pass judgement on this trend until I fully grasp what it will look like. As we all know, trends that once-were always come back, but usually in a different look.

4. Accessorizing your Accessories and Bows

I first saw this prediction from Ava Jane (definitely check this video out). She talks about having seen content creators putting findings on their purses and shoes to accessorize their accessories. This one really had me thinking, because it felt so familiar. This is very reminiscent of my childhood years, when we did not get new backpacks every year. As kids we would add buttons, key chains, Sharpie drawings, or really whatever knick-knacks we could find to make the backpack a part of our identity. I am predicting, with currently no research to back this up, that this will be a trend as we head into another year of predicted economic recession.

I think this is similar to the bow trend as well, which is ending 2023 and starting 2024 with a bang. Beautiful little bows are seen on everything, from sweaters to tights to updos. This is such a cute trend, and it is also one that does not cost consumers much to do. It can be virtually free if you have a ribbon and know how to tie a bow. I love these two trends and I'm curious where they will go.

Think about these four trends and how you want to seem them implemented. I am so interested to know what readers think, if you want to have a dialogue about these predictions please reach out! Any sources I viewed have been hyperlinked accordingly and I invite you to take a look at them.
